Below are the members of the Ilford War Memorial Gardens Action Group.
Ruth is Chair of the Action Group and is a former Councillor for Aldborough Ward in which the Ilford War Memorial Garden is located. Ruth is determined to ensure the Memorial Gardens and Hall are preserved and maintained in the best possible condition for the benefit of all residents of Redbridge.
David lives in the immediate vicinity of the Gardens and is a director of one of the residents management company in Newbury Central.
Frances is a long term resident of Ilford. Since the early 1990’s she has been researching the soldiers who lost their lives in WW1 and who’s names appear in the War Memorial Hall. She is also a member of War Memorials Trust and takes a keen interest in the preservation of all War Memorials.
Mike, husband of Frances, also shares the same interest. Together they have made many visits to WW1 sites in France and Belgium to record details relating to names on the War Memorial Hall. Mike assists Frances in her research.
Clive Summerson was born and brought up in Newbury Park close to the site of the Ilford War Memorial Garden. He has a keen interest in military history, particularly the Great War. Clive has made many visits to the WW1 battlefields in France, Belgium, Italy and Turkey along with his brother Foster.
Ashley is a Barkingside Ward Councillor and has lived in Barkingside for the past 25 years. Ashley has a particular interest in Millitary History & has suported the Group's work for many years. Ashley was invited to join the Action Group in February 2011.
John has lived in the vicinity of the Ilford War Memorial Garden all his life. John is a member of the Perrymans Farm Residents Association (PFRA) committee & is the Standard Bearer for the Barkingside Branch of the Royal British Legion. John has been a member of the Action Group since its inception.
Cllr Ashley Kissin
John is a long term resident of Oaks Lane and is Chairman of the Barkingside Branch of the Royal British Legion. A former Aldborough Ward Councillor and keen horticulturalist, John has provided numerous plants for the ILford War Memorial Garden.
